Job Summary:

The Preconstruction Services Estimator at Martin Specialty Coatings plays a critical role in the early stages of project development. This position is responsible for validating project opportunities, developing scopes, preparing pricing estimates, and overseeing proposal creation and verification. The Estimator will collaborate closely with internal teams, clients, and stakeholders to ensure competitive and accurate bids while aligning with company objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

Validation

• Assess project viability by reviewing client requirements, specifications, and site conditions.

• Conduct preliminary risk analysis and feasibility studies.

• Coordinate with internal teams to determine project fit and strategic alignment.

Scope Development

• Define detailed project scopes based on client needs and industry best practices.

• Collaborate with project managers and technical teams to ensure accurate scope definitions.

• Identify potential challenges and opportunities within the project scope.

Pricing

• Develop competitive and accurate cost estimates.

• Analyze material, labor, and subcontractor costs to ensure profitability.

• Utilize estimating software and historical data for pricing optimization.

Proposal Development

• Prepare comprehensive proposals that align with client specifications and company capabilities.

• Ensure all proposal elements, including scope, pricing, and terms, are clearly defined.

• Work with internal stakeholders to refine and enhance proposal presentations.

Proposal Verification

• Conduct thorough quality checks on proposals before submission.

• Ensure all estimates, scopes, and assumptions are validated and align with project

objectives.

• Address any inconsistencies or gaps in the proposal documentation.

Proposal Delivery

• Submit proposals in a timely and professional manner.

• Present proposals to clients, addressing questions and concerns as needed.

• Collaborate with sales and project management teams for effective handoff.

Follow-up / Award

• Track proposal status and follow up with clients post-submission.

• Negotiate contract terms and scope adjustments as necessary.

• Support the transition from preconstruction to project execution upon award.

Project Budget

• Establish baseline budgets for awarded projects.

• Ensure consistency between initial estimates and final project costs.

• Work with project managers to maintain cost control throughout execution.

Debrief – Loss

• Analyze unsuccessful bids to identify areas for improvement.

• Gather client feedback and industry insights to refine future estimating processes.

• Adjust pricing strategies and proposal approaches based on lessons learned.
